Ladies, do not accept coffee dates!

Another day another stupid hot take that’s garnered some attention cause it’s click-baiting hyperbole nonsense!

When did this trend of hating coffee dates start?

The argument is that coffee dates are the bare minimum.

Coffee dates are low effort. That’s the point. When meeting a stranger, you want to see if you click. If you do, then you can set up a “real date” afterward.

YES!

That’s the whole point!

Why?:

  • We don’t know you
  • You don’t know us
  • It’s cheap; we’re cheap
  • A first date should be the bare minimum
  • A first date is literally for two people who are mutually attracted to each other to see if it’s worth a second date
  • It’s in a safe, public space.
  • It’s efficient and simple, and there are no strings attached

It’s that simple.

But what are the arguments for why coffee dates are bad?:

  • First impressions are important. To some, coffee says, “I’m probably not going to like you, so I want to make this as quick and cheap for me as possible.” Just not romantic at all.
