The common perception is that young men on dating apps just want casual sex and only care about looks. This to an extent is true. In the most basic caveman way, sure. Let’s get down to its root cause and see if it’s entirely true!

But as always everything is more nuanced and the extreme difficulty of a young man matching with someone on the app denotes a logical inference. The more you swipe right, the ever more likely you are to match with one. That makes sense right?

Researchers from the University of North Texas show that men who use Tinder have significantly lower self-esteem.

“When it came to self esteem, men had significantly lower self-esteem if they were Tinder users… When you think of the negative consequences, you usually think of women, but men are just as susceptible.”

Yet the app induces you to keep swiping and to keep using it because apparently, it is going to boost your confidence.
