He tried to change a woman to meet his standards after dating her for numerous months.

So I’ll repeat what I said to an old friend.

“She’ll never change, bruv.”

You can't expect a woman to change for what you like. They’ll never turn into the woman you think is perfect. Accept them for who they are or not at all. Software can’t rewrite its own code; you can’t expect a person to change their core programming to suit your preferences.

There’ll never be a moment in time when someone decides they should change just cause you said so. Expecting a woman to change for you is like asking your iPhone to transform into a vintage typewriter because you miss the sound of keys clacking — it’s a denial of progress and a misunderstanding of purpose. Being with someone and sticking around cause you hope they change that “one thing,” is a zero-sum game.

“You knew what it was”.

Hoping someone will change to be the person you actually want to be with is a romantic fantasy that will never come to fruition. Sticking around and dating someone who shows signs of change but no actual change is a waste of your fucking time.
