Sticking to type is one of the easiest ways to keep you single.

“They’re not my type, I guess.”

This phrase is one of the most annoying phrases I grow sick of hearing. What does that even mean? It’s like trying to nail jelly to a wall — impossible to grasp and leaving you with a mess of foiled understanding.

I reckon those trotting out that phrase usually pitch their tents in one of two camps. On one side, you’ve got the adventurers who flirt with variety, yet often find themselves magnetically drawn back to a familiar “type” — missing out on potentially epic love sagas with someone wildly compatible. On the flip side, there’s the brigade staunchly devoted to their type, as if they’re collecting carbon copies; they’re riding a merry-go-round of dating déjà vu. But, shrug it off with a casual, “I’ve got my type,” right into a whirlwind of Groundhog Day dating disasters.

The latter are also the ones on social media bemoaning the fact that “the dating pool is toxic”.

No love, you just keep dating the same tired old archetypes.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again. If it’s not working out with the “type” you keep going for. Why keep going for them? “Cause they’re hot,” right!? Urgh.
