The Myth of True Love and The Bachelor/Bachelorette
The new season of the Bachelorette is releasing this Monday and it got me thinking about dating reality show’s in general.
Yes, they’re fake trashy and probably bad for your brain, but what if we can learn something in the midst of these catfights over champagne bottles, people declaring they’re there for the right reasons. Maybe we can learn a little something from why these shows are so popular!
So why would I even bother analyzing the way love is portrayed on reality TV, it’s not even close to the “real thing”. Especially when it’s ever more apparent that tons of people are at least partially aware of what’s going on. By that I mean, the contestants know they might grab some corny profitable skincare sponsorship, or at the very least boost their Instagram following. The ulterior motives as to why people feature on those shows are a phenomenon in and of themselves.
What is the Bachelor or Bachelorette? It features one man or woman. It’s a giant pool of potential soulmates eliminating contestants each week until they found the person they’re apparently going to marry.
